On a North Carolina tobacco farm, undocumented workers Marisol and Xavier Mendez struggle to protect their American-born son, Matias, from the racism and exploitation surrounding their family. After the farm's owner assaults Marisol, her parents introduce a dark tradition from their homeland, creating an effigy of Matias and placing it in the fields as a warning to those who hurt him.
Fueled by Matias's anger and the family's buried resentment, the effigy comes to life, hunting down the wealthy family who abuses them. Each kill brings it closer to the house and closer to becoming Matias himself. What begins as vengeance quickly turns into horror as the creature no longer distinguishes between justice and hate.
To stop the nightmare, Matias must confront the violence his rage has unleashed before the effigy replaces him entirely. The cost of survival may be his own life. The monster is born from injustice...But it does not stop once justice is served.
